You're on the phone (Oh no I'm not!!)

So today I get in the car as usual in order to commence my morning commute.
Once the media Centre had booted up, I was presented with a 'call in progress' message on the display. I don't use CarPlay or Android Auto, just the Bluetooth connection for hands-free phone operation.
So I touched the end call button, only to be presented with a message saying "call termination failed, check phone" or words to that effect.
I checked my phone, no call! Turned off the phone's bluetooth, still no dice.

Being in IT, the first thing I did was to power the car down completely and try again. Exactly the same thing occurred. At this point I figured I needed to get on the road quick smart so proceeded with my journey, frantically pressing the end call button, both on the steering wheel and on the Media Centre, and resulting in the same "call termination failed" message. Nothing seem to work, so I continued my journey in silence (no tunes 'cos the car thinks I'm on the phone) thinking reset button would need to come into play at some point.

It wasn't until towards the end of my journey that I noticed the use the 'use private' option on the media display. So I pressed it and voila! the function that I believe is intended to transfer the call from the hands-free system to the phone itself seemed to clear the problem. Once again I had tunes to listen to as I completed my journey.

I'll see what happens when I leave to go home...

Got in for the drive home, all was normal again.

To be fair I had seen a similar issue in my now returned Outlander Phev, except for the fact that the media display was completely blank apart from a background pattern. In that instance, simply pressing the end call button on the steering wheel returned the system to normal.

It follows therefore that it might be a phone issue… (iPhone 6S).
